July 25, 2005 | Updates

Yesterday and last night were harder days for little Samuel, he is posturing more and more. They are a very hard thing for a parent to see. It has been difficult for us. For a time we wondered if he would ever stop, due to the fact that they tell us that happens to alot of people with brain damage of this sort, that is they never come out of the postureing stage and they may always be this way mentaly. Although this is a possibility thus far, they tell us becasue he is so aleart now it is a very good sign he will more than likley pull out of it, for the most part. We are optimistic that he will! Sleep has been hard to come by as well as time out of his room (espically for Teresa). But were doing fine. We still don’t know how long we’ll be hear, I will moe than likley have to go back home for work soon, but either way we will be down hear offten. Thanks again for your prayers, comments, and ALL your help. We love you all! TomP.S. (Forgot) Wanted to mention to please continue to pray that Samuels posturing will subside, his rehab and healing will be quick, and our Faith will be strong

  1. Fencing

    Tom and Teresa,

I just wanted to let you know that my brother Jay works for Northern Valley Fabrication, and they have a huge vinyl fence division. I don’t know what kind of fence you were wanting to put up, but he can get all the materials for a six foot vinyl security fence donated, and the labor to install it would be free. That way all the money raised can go to medical bills instead of fencing. If this sounds okay, all we need to know is where to put the fence. We’re still praying for Samuel and you guys too.

    Love,
    The Leishman’s

  2. We love Samuel

Samuel, we are praying for you everyday. We fasted for you. I told Aaron that maybe he was too little to fast, but he insisted on fasting for you. Lauren is crazy about you and loves the way you say “four-wee-wa.” You are in our thoughts all the time. We can’t wait to go camping with you again when you’re feeling better. We are so glad you are starting to smile and be your old self. You are a living miracle. We love you.

    Love, the Conrads.

  3. Prayers for Samuel

Thank you so much for using this site. It is so nice to get updates on Samuel without having to bother you when you have so much on your mind. I have had so many calls from people in the ward and stake concerned about your family. Everyone wants to help so if there is anything you need please let us know, nothing is too small. My mother is in Salt Lake so if you need anything, I would love to drive down. Please know that you are in our thoughts and most importantly in our prayers. Kae Sundberg (245-3332)

  4. JEWKES POWER

Just a reminder about the power that is there in Jose Valley!!!!!!! Remember The prayers that are going up out there. If that doesen’t reassure that the power of Jewkes is going on nothing will. There is no doubt in my mind that they are all praying sincerely for Samuel. In fact I bet Great grampa Samuel is up there hearing them as well. Man I wish I could be up there. Love ya!!!

  5. Jewkes Family

    Tom, Teresa and Baby Samuel,
We here at the shop wanted to let you know that we are thinking about you and praying for your speedy recovery. We know that you will make it through this because of the STRONG FAMILY that you come from. We all love you soo much and can’t wait to see you running around here again. Tom and Teresa, don’t worry about a thing up here. We have everything taken care of. You guys have been there for EVERY ONE of us, and you better believe we will be there for you. You can count on that! You are a true example of what real faith is all about. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you always! Love, The Staff @ The GoodTimber

  6. thinking of you

Thanks for keeping us all updated!! Know that you all are constantly in my thoughts and prayers. I deal with situations like Samuels everyday and have seen what parents have to endure to have a child in the hospital. It amazes me to see and hear the strength of the two of you (as it always has, but more so now). Please remember as you care for that sweet little boy, please take care of yourselves. I love you all!!

  7. Tom, Teresa and Baby Samuel,

We read each update with baited breath and thankful hearts. Our prayers are with all of you. The Spirit of the Lord is with little Samuel and the angels are smiling! We pray God gives you the strength you will need for Samuel’s recovery. Just know that we love you all very much, and we pray Grandma Bird will be able to hold little Samuel in her arms very soon. God Bless You, Norma & Linda Reese.

  8. Thinking of you.

    Dear Tom & Teresa,
Just letting you know our thoughts and prayers have been with you and your dear Samuel.
It can be a little frightening being there at Primary Childrens but you are in the best of hands.
We loved the doctors and nurses that aided Jodi 15 years ago. You become quite close to these people.
I don’t know why terrible things have to happen, but I do know that our Heavenly Father loves and cares very much for us.
When I have had to go through “tough times” I always tried to
    1. Take it one day at a time. Some times one hour at a time.
    2. Pray to your Heavenly Father.
    3. Have faith that He knows what’s best.

  9. Family
Conrads, We can’t tell you how much your vistit meant to us. Your kids are absolute angels & you are saints! Your donation was WAY to much. We both lost it (our composure) when we read all your kids letters, particularley the $7 that was probably a life savings. Love, the Jewkes

  10. Prayers for Samuel, heard
Kae And Jim, Good neighbors are such a great thing to have, and that is one of the manny things we have going for us. You have been so helpfull and nice from the begining. Its good to hear from you, and we’ll see you soon. Please keep praying for his posturing to subside, his rehab to be helpfull and quick and our Faith to be strong. Love, The Jewkes

  11. Thanks
Vic, How right you are. Only you should feel bad for not being there ever. (smile), Justy kiddin, kinda. Tom

  12. Great GoodTimber staff!
Staff, no words can express the thanks we feel for how lucky and blessed we are to have such a great staff. We can feel the consearn of everyone one of you…Jon, Jill, Ashley, Russ, Aaron, Kerry, Rhett, Mike, Ryan (buzzard), Jose, Adam, Brandon, & Randy, You all have a special place in our hearts. Aaron thanks so much for getting that cover in the canal so quickley. Jon tells me you were consearned about not getting it in quickley enough…Don’t…it’s not your fault AT ALL!! Its more mine than anyone, for not finding the time, or asking you to do it sooner. I just said “when ever” Dumb of me. Anyhow, Thanks again everybody for offering to put up the fence, wow that means a lot. We will get started asap.

  13. Your love for us
Thank you so much for that advice Courtney, you realy have been around this kind of thing. @ ths point, becasue of his condition there is realy not a whole lot of time to rest much, but Thanks to Dad & Deb bird who have been comming up everyday to sit with him for a little wile, we have been able to eat dinner together. However, Teresa has a hard time with that and isn’t eating much. With time and also all this advice and help, we will get better and better everyday. She will read this and I know it will help. Love The Jewkes

  14. Gratitude
Linda, thanks for your support and prayers. Your right, Grandma Bird will be VERY thankfull to hold the little bugger again. Cause that’s the way she is. We love you all. Love The Jewkes

  15. All I can say is……
WOW!!! It is hard to except such a donation, wondering if all this help is something we deserve. However, we have talked it over and would be very apprecitive if you can help. What a GREAT thing to offer! Steve wasn’t just kidding when he said what good people you guys are!
Also, we have ways to help pay for the fence. Teresa’s family (her Dad & Mom in Orem) along with A LOT of help from her sister Kaylee Bird, have all orginized a donation fund & account along with posters for small stores to display for people to donate to if they want. The info needed for this care page will be posted on this site shortly, as soon as we get a chance. Therefore I don’t think it is nessessary that you have to donate the whole cost of the fence. Whatever the donations can’t come up with we will make up the diffreances in what ever way we need to. The guys @ the shop have offered there labor to put up the fence and have also dedicated the production on Fridays furniture building to be auctioned off on the radio and @ the smithfield auction. (God Bless em). The most important thing is that we get it up. Before this all happened we were waiting for the funds to build up, but shouldn’t have waited a day after we moved in. The origonal quote for the fence was $12,000 we don’t need that nice of a fence anymore, just something to protect. (Our own faults). So THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH. With Love, The Jewkes God Bless you all!!
P.S. If I can’t get up soon to show how we would like it, then I’ll call you. If you would like to call me please do so anytime. Sometimes it’s hard to get reception in this hospital but just try. Call Jill @ my office to get my cell number or to find out how to get a hold of me.

  16. Good advice
Kim, one day, (hour @ a time) is great advice. That’s exactley what were doing. (smile) Thanks. The Jewkes
